US embassy on "Facebook revolution" in Azerbaijan
US embassy comments on media reports that National Democratic Institute is preparing "Facebook revolution" in Azerbaijan
The allegations that the National Democratic Institute is going to prepare “Facebook revolution” in Azerbaijan are baseless, the US embassy told.

Commenting on the reports that Alex Grigorievs, resident country director for NDI in Azerbaijan, has spent $2 million on a project to prepare a revolution through Facebook in Azerbaijan, the embassy said:

“The National Democratic Institute and its Director work to support Azerbaijan`s civil society engagement and democratic development. NDI has been completely transparent with the government of Azerbaijan about its work here since 1995, and its activities fall within its registration agreement with the Ministry of Justice.”

The National Democratic Institute is an organization established by the US government to support the democracy in developing states. The organization is funded by the Federal Government, both directly from the United States Agency for International Development and the Department of State and indirectly through the National Endowment for Democracy. Earlier, Haqqin.az reported that NDI is preparing a revolution through Facebook in Azerbaijan, Alex Grigorievs, resident country director for NDI in Azerbaijan, has spent $2 million on this.
